When thinking about your goals, are you describing a need or a want?

Achieving personal goals is more of a brain game then it is a physical challenge. We get in our own way more then any outside force or obstacle ever will. Think about all the planning and expectations people have for themselves at the end of the year as they plan their New Year’s resolutions, and within a few weeks after beginning their program, they quit. People spend too much time thinking about the end result of their goal instead of spending time creating, setting up and supporting their program’s structure. Detail planning will help overcome most external obstacles that will eventually be encountered as you work to achieve your goals.

Psychology of goal settingIf weight loss is your goal then how you perceive yourself or “act” is directly going to affect how well you do.  Being a weight loss person means something different to everyone. But whatever your goal is, it means sacrificing. Focusing on a specific objective means you may have to give up something else in your life in order to make sure you have enough time work on accomplishing your goal.

To some people losing weight means not eating candy and sweets or drinking more water. Other people it means going grocery shopping 2x a week to make sure they have everything they need to be successful or eating more vegetables, and to others it means they workout 5x a week. The key here is the “actions” and time frame you deem vital to your success must be completed. If you find that if you are no longer achieving your goals at the success rate that you wanted, then one of the issues may be that you have stopped doing the “actions” that supported your goals in the first place.

Create your goals based on a end result, not a number. Spend time creating a plan of action as well as how you will over come obstacles along the way. Review your progress after a few weeks, and immediately make changes if your plan is not on track.

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”
